Awkward Boss

So you guys have been asking me about my new job and since I haven't been randomly emailing you all day from work (yet), I wanted to give you a rundown on how things are going.

Desk situation
I've been sharing the desk of the girl that I'm replacing (GTIR) until I'm trained up and she leaves. The IT guy was on vacation last week and is slowly setting her up on a temporary computer so I can finally take over her work station and "make it mine." GTIR is cool - very thorough and professional and we get along fine enough. She commutes from Philly everyday, two hours each way, which I totally don't get. But get this: she's not leaving because of the commute. She's leaving because her boyfriend is transferring to North Carolina and she's going with him. This is actually good for me because she has set the precedence of coming in a little late and leaving a on time. Once she's got her own computer, I'll be online in a flash, setting up my new email, signature, and desktop. I'll keep you posted.

Coworker situation
So in general, my coworkers seem pretty nice. In my department, we are all female and I'm the only one that's married. This is a potential problem, but the girls seem like they have a sense of humor so it should be okay. I think it's kind of weird that our boss is the only male (in marketing) and that no one really snacks.

Boss situation
My boss is awkward. There's no other way to put it. I feel uncomfortable making eye contact with him, but at the same time I have to. And then I feel obligated not to break eye contact. It's painful - and it's only been four days. We have had a few conversations where he asks me how I am and I say good and he smiles and nods and I also smile and nod. Awkward.

He's also kind of weird. We had a company picnic in NJ on Friday and he drove me in his car that has a big magnetic sign on the door advertising his nursery business. When I asked him about it, he didn't really say much. How awkward! When we got to the picnic we had to sign in and he ditched me! You would think that he might want to introduce me around to people, but he ran off like an excited little boy. How awkward!

I guess it might work if he just leaves me alone and loves my work (because what boss hasn't loved my work?).

Drink situation
They keep a fridge stocked with drinks. Yum!

Alright, that's it for now. More updates later.

First Day

Today was my first day at work. My boss took me, the girl I'm replacing, and the girl that reports to me out to lunch. On the way out, I slipped and fell. I tried to get up and slipped and fell again. eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeek!

Steam Explosion in NYC

I was walking home to my bus tonight when I got to Lexington Avenue and all hell broke loose. People were running and crying at the same time and all I could see was smoke. I freaked out and started to run uptown, but I kept looking back and I realized that the "smoke" wasn't coming towards me and that it looked too white to be smoke. I turned around and started taking pictures as I walked home.

♥ PS ♥

♥ While I was pretending to work at work today, I randomly learned how to make hearts. ♥

Culture Shock!

Tony and I just got back from the grocery store. He really wanted to make shake n bake chicken tonight but we couldn't find the shake n bake in our grocery store. We found Japanese bread crumbs and Thai peanut shake n bake, but no good ole fashioned American shake n bake. How weird.

All good things must come to an end

This Monday starts the last week at my current job. Things are really going to suck. I hate the period of time after giving notice and before physically leaving work for the last time. It's so awkward when people come up to me and say, "I heard a nasty rumor!" or "I hear you're leaving!" What am I supposed to say? Well, I've actually been saying, "so long, sucker," but no one seems to think it's funny except me. HAHA

I hate saying goodbye to coworkers, especially the ones that I don't plan on keeping in touch with. I've been debating whether or not I should write a farewell email. Every mass farewell email that I have received has always struck me as cheesy and inauthentic. Goodbye, it's been nice knowing you, but not nice enough to personally give you my contact information. But at the same time, it seems somewhat rude to just leave.

I can tell that this last week is going to suck. I'm going to be busy pretending to work and being helpful while actually NOT being productive. Do you think anyone will notice? The days are really going to drag.

The one thing I will miss - all the product I've been getting. What a bummer.
